- **Event Description**: Commissioned by composer David Rain in memory of his uncle, Duncan W. Shaw (1932-2025), this memorial concert features 19 of David's sacred and secular choral compositions. Each of the songs has been dedicated to someone dear to Duncan and/or David, amongst their family and friends.

Duncan W. Shaw had a distinguished career as a lawyer and judge in Vancouver. In his retirement years, with no formal training, he delved into some of the most challenging questions of theoretical physics. His papers on the cause of gravity and other topics were presented at academic gatherings and published by peer-reviewed journals.

Duncan was a source of inspiration, encouragement and support for David’s own “late-in-life” composing career. Duncan was thrilled to have attended the 2018 and 2022 Vancouver Chamber Choir Interplay workshops, where five of David’s songs were tested out for the very first time by the Choir. Two of these songs will be featured in this concert.

In addition to ticket sales, donations to the Vancouver Chamber Choir in memory of Duncan W. Shaw will be gratefully received.
