Each year, millions of tons of plastic enter marine ecosystems, breaking down into microplastics that contaminate our water, harm marine life, and eventually make their way into our food supply. According to the Ocean Conservancy, over 8 million metric tons of plastic enter the ocean annually, endangering species from seabirds to whales. By removing plastic from our coastlines before it reaches the water, we protect marine ecosystems and preserve the natural beauty of our beaches.How It WorksMonthly Beach CleanupsEach month, we meet at a different beach with supplies to collect and remove waste from a local beach. I provide cleanup supplies, and all are welcome to join. Participants are encouraged to bring gloves, tongs, boots, and garbage bags if they have them.Sort & RecycleAfter each cleanup, we sort recyclables from general waste. Anything eligible for return deposits will be collected and returned. Things like paper/plastic/metal/styrofoam will be separated and recycled if possible. Clothing is collected, washed and donated to charity.
