Joffre Lakes Provincial Park is a hiking paradise in the summer and a skiing and snowshoeing paradise in the winter. About 1.5 hrs north of Whistler, all three of the Joffre Lakes are frozen over and the trees weighed down with snow. In winter the ice will be strong enough that we can walk right on top of the third lake; however, this year we're getting warm very quickly so the lakes may not be as frozen as last year. We'll monitor the weather and avalanche conditions. And due to the shorter day compared to summer, we'll be snowshoeing part of the trail using headlamps. As per all our longer and difficult hikes, if the forecast for the Sunday calls for rain/snow of more than 60% by the Wednesday before, we'll postpone it to a future date.
It's not enough to just rsvp 'going'; I need to arrange carpooling and rent shoes so you need to register at http://naturephotohikes.com/register/product/joffre-lakes-snowshoeing
