- **Event Description**: Fun fact — I was pleasantly surprised to learn that a number of both Canadian and US film producers and directors who are making million-dollar projects today actually made their first projects as low-budget (under $100K) films.

After going to several markets, I can share that it is now both harder and easier to have your project distributed, even self-distributed, whereas in the past it was just hard.

In today's film climate in the province of BC, conditions are actually perfect for the production of low-budget independent feature films and television, and the next step is for those producers and directors who are ready to make something within the next 12 months to take action.

On Thursday, June 26 or another date in the last week of June, if the other participants prefer, I would like to get together with FIVE (5) producers or directors in-person who are such filmmakers, to discuss how this can actually be done. We will discuss:

• What kind of projects may work for this.
• What are the bare costs that need to be covered (insurance, labour).
• How to utilize one of our two filming tax credits (requirements, how to optimize).
• How to finance it (funds, private investment, in-kind).
• How to sell/distribute (what returns, distributors, do it yourself).

We will consider independent low-budget feature films to be $50K to $150K
Micro-budget to be $151K to $250K
Independent episodic (webseries) to be $200K to $450K
