About this Event

**All proceeds support stewarship of the Renfrew Ravine*

Join us for a cozy workshop to create a wreath to hang on your door this winter season.

The tradition of crafting decorative winter wreaths is thought to have started in connection with the winter solstice holiday of Yule, which the ancient Germanic and Scandinavian peoples celebrated. The evergreen foliage used in the wreath symbolizes strength and immortality (these tough plants keep their leaves through the hardest season) and hope — reminding us that spring will come again.

English Holly and European Ivy are evergreen plants that are widespread in their places of origin and commonly used for wreaths, but they behave invasively in British Columbia where they were introduced by European settlers. We will provide participants with holly and ivy that have been removed from the banks of Still Creek by our environmental stewarship team to protect native species and biodiversity. All proceeds will support Environmental Stewardship work at the Renfrew Ravine. Your winter wreath will be more than a decoration, it will also help to restore the land!

What to Expect
  • We will provide all materials needed to make your wreath, including holly, ivy, colourful foliage and berries, colourful baubles, ribbon, and other decorations. We will also provide 16-inch metal wreath frames for those who would like to use one.
