Like a photographer receiving a story to cover, your day begins with an objective. Before Chinatown fills with visitors for the 2026 Chinatown Festival, we will be on the streets at sunrise searching for photographs with purpose and intention. At the start of the walk, each participant receives a photographic assignment tailored specifically to the location, time of day, and objectives of the walk. Like a photojournalist receiving an assignment, participants are given a direction, a challenge, or a visual problem to solve through photography. The assignment provides a purpose for the walk, encouraging photographers to look more carefully, think more intentionally, and engage more deeply with their surroundings.Join Andrew Legere, fine art photographer, photographic educator, and owner of Legere Fine Art Services, for a guided three hour street photography experience through Vancouver. Formally educated in professional photography and business, Andrew brings more than twenty five years of photographic experience and over ten years working professionally behind the lens. Through workshops, photowalks, critiques, and exhibitions, he helps photographers develop both their technical abilities and their understanding of photography as a visual language.Throughout the walk, Andrew will work directly with participants, helping them interpret the assignment, refine their approach, and discover photographs they may have otherwise overlooked. The goal is not simply to return home with more photographs, but to create stronger photographs with greater intention.Following the walk, each participant will select one photograph from their assignment to be professionally printed as an archival 11 × 14 inch exhibition print. Several weeks later, we will gather once again for the September 13 Print Reveal & Exhibition, where participants will see their photographs transformed from digital files into finished prints. Prints may be picked up during the event or mailed directly to participants who are unable to attend.A photograph changes when it becomes a print. It slows us down. It asks us to look more carefully. It becomes something physical; something to be held, displayed, revisited, and experienced beyond the screen. We believe a photograph is not complete until it exists as a print. https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events10/banners/4f87a7b0-85f8-11f1-8b8f-17afdd2e07be-rimg-w1178-h740-dcc1c4bf-gmir.jpg Part One: The Photographic AssignmentSunday, September 13 | 7:00am – 10:00amEvery edition of The Photographic Assignment begins with an objective. At the start of the walk, each participant receives a photographic assignment designed specifically for the location, time of day, and environment we will be exploring. The assignment provides a direction, a challenge, or a visual problem to solve through photography, encouraging a more intentional approach to image making.Following a brief introduction and discussion, we will spend the morning photographing together as a group. Along the way, Andrew will provide guidance on observation, composition, timing, light, and visual storytelling while helping participants develop their own approach to the assignment. This is a small group experience focused on learning, experimentation, and creating stronger photographs with purpose.Following the walk, each participant will select one photograph from their assignment and submit a digital file for professional printing.Part Two: The Print Reveal & Group DiscussionSunday, September 13Location: To Be AnnouncedSeveral weeks after the walk, participants will gather for a print reveal and group discussion. Each selected photograph will be professionally produced as an archival 11 × 14 inch exhibition print, allowing participants to experience their work beyond the screen and in physical form.Together we will discuss the photographs, the assignments, and the creative decisions that shaped the final images. The reveal offers an opportunity to see how different photographers approached their assignments and how a photograph changes when it becomes a print.Attendance is optional.
