The workshop will be all outdoors, hands-on and interactive. Each farm will get to inoculate a shiitake bolt during the workshop and bring home with them. We will cover the basics of:• Timber considerations: selection, cutting, and handling• Shiitake strain considerations• Inoculation procedures, equipment, logistics & labor efficiency• Shiitake production site considerations, and seasonal management• Shiitake enterprise planning considerations• WSU's current projects with forest-cultivated mushroom productionRegistration fees admit up to 3 members of the same farm.All registration fees directly support WSU's Extension's forest-cultivated mushroom production systems research and education program.NOTE: The workshop will commence rain-or-shine. Be sure to be prepared and dressed appropriately for the weather and walking through fields, forest, and handling power tools, hand tools, melted wax, and logs weighing up to 50 lbs.WSU Extension programs and employment are available to all without discrimination.
