Cultivate the skills of noticing and asking for what you want (personal power), creating and maintaining clear agreements, and supporting those you interact with to do the same - including noticing and managing the power dynamics between all parties in ways that support a safe-enough container for everyone to notice and express their desires and limits. In doing so, potentiate possibilities for pleasure, play and integrity in all areas of your life.

Developed by Dr. Betty Martin and taught all over the world, the Wheel of Consent® is a framework that helps us to understand consent as an ongoing, dynamic agreement that supports clarity on who is doing an action and who it is for. The workshop includes a blend of theory, experiential exercises, and self-reflection. We will explore ways to disrupt the tendency to ‘go along with’, and discern between ‘giving’ and ‘doing’ and ‘willing’ and ‘wanting’, practice making clear requests and co-creating and maintaining clear agreements.

⭐What’s possible:⭐

A greater ability to notice, value, trust and express your desires and limits; skills that cultivate personal power

A greater ability to assess and support the ability of those you’re with to notice and bring forward their desires and limits

Cultivating the power of the pause and disrupting the tendency to ‘go along with’

Expanded possibilities for play, pleasure and empowered relating

Improved skills to recognize and manage power dynamics in ways that empower clear and consensual agreements

Relating from a place of greater integrity and authenticity

Greater attunement to the wisdom of your embodied ‘yes’ and ‘no’

A chance to connect with other people interested in this work

These practices support the development of skills that enhance our ability to relate authentically with each other, support safety, clarity and ease in relationships. These skills benefit all areas of our lives, from the personal to the professional. While this is not a workshop that focuses on intimacy or sex, these skills are helpful in those areas and participants often report improved fluency with naming desires and limits.

Workshop participants will have the ability to register for future ‘Wheel practice’ events, to support continued practice and community building.

⭐ Questions that we will explore include:⭐

Why don’t we ask for what we want, and what can we do instead?

How can we support greater access to noticing and choice?

How do we act when we really believe it’s for you, or for the other?

What can we learn by taking apart who is doing an action, and who it is for?

What is power, and how does it influence the creation of clear agreements?

How can we recognize and manage the ways that each of us hold power?

How can we live in greater integrity with our desires and limits?

How can we align more strongly with what supports our play and pleasure?

While not about touch, these workshops include the possibility of sharing touch as a vessel through which to learn the concepts.

This workshop is fully clothed, and touch is optional. There are many ways to participate, and touch is not an essential element of the workshop.

⭐Venue⭐

The venue address will be shared upon registration. The workshop location is in a beautiful venue near Devonshire Park in Vancouver, BC. The entrance has stairs and is not wheel chair accessible. Once inside, all of the spaces we will be using are on the same level. The space has couches, chairs, and floor seating, lots of natural light, access to water and one bathroom. We will have one HEPA air filter running. Some participants are scent-sensitive; to support accessibilty we request that participants do not wear synthetic scents, perfumes, essential oils, and to be mindful of incense and laundry-detergent scents that may linger on clothing, and to do your best to arrive 'scent free'.

⭐Guidelines for Participation include:⭐

→ Respect the privacy of others and not sharing other people’s names or experiences – feel free to share anything the facilitator says or anything about your own experience.
→ Noticing and choosing is more important than ‘doing’. There are many ways to participate - choose the one that works best for you. This may include witnessing, pairing up for an exercise, journaling, resting on the side... Noticing and making choices is what we are practicing :) Don't do anything that you don't want to do.
→ Feelings are welcome and do not need to be justified or explained. Honor the feelings that arise in others by allowing them to feel without fixing or advising
→ Speak from your personal experience using ‘I’ statements (I feel, I notice, I’m experiencing, etc.) when sharing. This helps us each to notice and take responsibility for our own experience, and to avoid speaking in generalized ways on behalf of people or groups.
→ Use the names and pronouns people request, and honor the lived experience of those in the group. Be willing to stay open and free of assumptions about people's identities and experiences (eg. assuming gender, race, sexuality, etc).
→ Possible touch in the exercises (which are all optional) does not include the genitals. You never have to touch anyone you do not want to, and you are 100% welcome to change your mind at any time.
→ Refrain from naming desires or making requests or offers for unclothed, genital, or explicitly sexual touch or experiences during the workshop.
→ Everyone remains fully clothed (tops and bottoms).
