By discussing different leadership styles of Black feminists, we aim to learn how their leadership can inspire us to take action in our own communties. We can host a maximum of 15 people, and this event is oriented for women aged 13-20 interested in networking, social justice, feminism, law, and politics. All women are welcome. Our schedule is as follows: Welcome and Ice Breaker: Watch a speech by Malcom X, and read poetry by Bell Hooks Break into groups of 2–3: Break into groups of 2–3. Each group gets one activist card which includes description about the activists and questions about their impact. After 10 minutes, we will have a group discussion on the following:When is confrontational activism necessary?When does diplomacy protect movements?Why are Black women’s leadership styles often erased?What do all these leaders share, despite different tactics?Then, each person will be assigned a modern issue. We will discuss how the different leadership styles of each Black activist would be applied in varying instances of injustice. We will finish off with providing attendees a checklist of tangible action they can take in their community, and more personal discussion questions. About our venue, Cathy's Cafe:Through our coffee chat, Let’s Talk Women of Colour aims to both create a space for youth women of colour to discuss identity and social justice while promoting locally owned coffee shops that make a difference in our community.
