Learn the basics of our CNC (computer numerical control) router. This robotic cutting tool can create parts with complex curves and surfaces out of wood, plastic, soft metal (including aluminum), foam, and other composites.
This orientation will present the whole CNC process, from CAD (computer aided design) to CAM (computer aided machining) to CUT (cutting your part), and each student will get hands-on experience operating the CNC router.
Students will learn how to prepare a simple 2D design, and then use VCarve software to convert your design to a toolpath for the CNC router. This tool allows its user to make intricate signs, custom furniture pieces, and an infinite variety of flat parts which can be assembled to create complex 3D creations.
Included in the class fee is a 30 minute consultation with a MakerLabs staff member, to be scheduled within 30 days of taking class.
Please note, due to COVID-19, the format of this class has changed to allow for social distancing. The first part of the class will be classroom learning as a small group. After this portion of the class is over, students will have a 30 minute one on one time with the instructor at the CNC Router machine.
