Indiana’s Calumet Region lays claim to some of the country’s largest steel mills, oil refineries, and chemical plants, and was once home to a Nike missile defense system – part of which is now located within Indiana Dunes National Park.
On March 14, Dr. Kathleen Tobin of Purdue University Northwest, and Cliff Goins, retired National Park Service ranger and president of Duneland Historical Society, examine the complex history of the region’s Cold War industries from Standard Oil to the U.S. Department of Defense, and their responses to the Cold War.
Presented in partnership with Calumet Heritage Partnership.
Free with advance registration. Linwood House, located on the campus of Valparaiso University and home to Indiana Landmarks’ Northwest Field Office, is an accessible venue.
Tickets for Cold War Calumet can be booked here.
