The Make A Wish Foundation is a charity that grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses.
The Power of a Wish:
A wish gives a sick child and their family the strength to face the devastating journey ahead of them. Wishes provide relief and hope, helping the family focus on something other than pain, fear and uncertainty.
Many children and families in and around High Prairie have been touched by the power of a wish. Here is one inspiring story:
Kelsi Smith, daughter of Michelle and Rodney Smith who are longstanding members of the High Prairie community was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (cancer) some years ago.
Kelsi was a vibrant teen who was actively engaged in local community minded events. She loved to cook and had aspirations in that respect. In the time following her diagnosis, Kelsi was granted a wish by the Make a Wish foundation to meet one of her culinary heroes, Duff Goldman (Charm City Cakes.) She was fascinated by the experience and was inspired to “pay it forward” by applying to be a volunteer with Make a Wish.
Kelsi participated in a thorough wish granting training and testing program and was accepted as an ambassador for the program. Sadly, Kelsi passed away before she was able to participate in granting a wish to another young person.
In planning this charity event in her honor, all proceeds of which will be donated to the Make a Wish Foundation, we believe that posthumously Kelsi will be able to have her dream realized to “pay it forward.”
