About the event

Native American Stone Structures Hike
Explore the rich history of Native American stone structures scattered throughout Northeast Alabama on this guided hike to a rock wall along a natural spring in the Little River Wildlife Management Area.

Led by retired JSU archaeologist Dr. Harry Holstein, this experience delves into the history, purpose, and cultural significance of rock mounds, stone walls, effigy structures, and other remarkable archaeological features.

About the hike: the trail will be moderate, no major inclines, approx. 2 miles total. Meet at DeSoto State Park Lodge and car caravan to the trailhead in the Little River WMA. Bring snacks/drinks, wear appropriate shoes for walking in the woods and dress for the weather.

Free & open to everyone, RSVP appreciated.
