🇬🇧 Thanks to Jane is a visual and sonic tribute to resistance, care, and quiet revolution.
Through black and white medium-format portraits, video projection, and layered sound, this solo exhibition honours the Jane Collective, a group of women who risked everything to provide education, counselling, and safe abortions when their system offered only silence or shame.
Thanks to Jane is not only a reflection of the past but also draws a parallel to the present, commenting on Malta’s current stance on reproductive rights, where women’s choice remains unresolved.
At a time when birth control required a husband’s permission and many women died from unsafe procedures or desperate remedies, Thanks to Jane honours the women who defied systemic oppression. It remembers the knitting needles, the whispered addresses, the student-led underground networks, and asks: what has really changed?

Permezz ta’ ritratti suwed u bojod f’format medju, projezzjonijiet ta' vidjos, u ħsejjes stratifikati, din il-wirja individwali tagħti ġieħ lill-Jane Collective, grupp ta’ nisa li rriskjaw kollox biex jipprovdu edukazzjoni, konsulenza, u aborti sikuri meta s-sistema tagħhom kienet toffri biss silenzju jew mistħija.
Thanks to Jane mhijiex biss riflessjoni dwar il-passat iżda tagħmel ukoll paralleliżmu mal-preżent, billi tikkummenta dwar il-pożizzjoni attwali ta’ Malta fir-rigward tad-drittijiet riproduttivi, fejn l-għażla tan-nisa għadha mhix solvuta.
Fi żmien meta l-kontroll tat-twelid kien jeħtieġ il-permess tar-raġel u ħafna nisa mietu minn proċeduri mhux sikuri jew rimedji ddisprati, Thanks to Jane tagħti ġieħ lin-nisa li sfidaw l-oppressjoni sistemika. Hija tfakkar fil-labar tal-innittjar, l-indirizzi mgħotija minn taħt l-ilsien, in-networks klandestini mmexxija mill-istudenti, u tistaqsi: x’inbidel verament?
