This session will take the form of an exhibition tour and presentation led by curator and founding director Rachel Rits-Volloch, focusing on the founding and development of MOMENTUM as an independent art space. Based in Berlin, MOMENTUM is a global platform for time-based art, connecting art communities across borders through exhibitions, residencies, public video art, and educational programmes.
The session is centred around Art from Elsewhere: DEEP THROAT, presented in collaboration with Valletta Contemporary, marking MOMENTUM’s 15th anniversary. This sixth edition of MOMENTUM’s site-specific travelling exhibition reimagines the MOMENTUM Collection through global urgencies and local contexts. The exhibition examines the spectacle of contemporary power where politics, media, and culture merge into a theatre of exposure and control. Through dialogue between the MOMENTUM Collection and Maltese artists, DEEP THROAT explores how art anticipates and resists these conditions, offering alternative ways of seeing and imagining. In a world where conflict and manipulation are consumed as entertainment, the exhibition interrogates the contradictions of surveillance, secrecy, and truth, reframing art as an act of resistance and recognition.
