All ages. No experience necessary!About this EventCyanotype is a centuries-old process of photoprinting utilizing the sun as the main catalyst to create deep blue compositions. In this workshop, participants will expand the possibilities of cyanotype by utilizing their own scrap materials to create unique and abstract cyanotype arrangements. You will learn the basics of the cyanotype process and work collaboratively with the elements (sun, earth and water) to give an object, garment, or material a new, blue life! All ages welcome. No prior cyanotype experience is necessary.This 3 hour workshop will begin with an explanation of the process with some example pieces for inspiration. From there we will flow into our creative state, utilizing techniques like monoprinting with objects, fabric patterning and transparency negatives to create compositions, with assistance at each step. By the end of the workshop, participants will have their own beautiful cyanotyped pieces that can stand alone as beautiful works of art or serve as a starting place for mixed media projects!Examples of materials to bring in:To print on: cardboard, scrap paper, wood, natural fabricTo print with: a flower from your garden, scrap lace or netted fabric, scissors, glasses, headphones, jewelry, hair etc. The less opaque the item, the better. The possibilities are endless!If you do not have anything you would like to repurpose by cyanotyping on or with, no worries! All of the necessary materials to create beautiful compositions will be provided.Workshop Instructor Bio:Khepera is an Oakland-based culture worker who utilizes mixed media collage, sculpture, textile art, film, and fashion to facilitate the birth of a different world centered on reciprocity with nature and transformation. Her work has been exhibited by the NYC MTA, the World Water Film Festival, Barnard Design Center Gallery, the Barnard Movement Lab, and at the Textile Arts Center Gallery in Brooklyn.
