- **Event Description**: Bringing to you the “ The Wool Experience” a unique collaboration between The Wee Croft and Forest and Dot. 

The Wool experience offers a chance to engage in all elements from flock to fibre to product.

Meet Ella the Shetland sheep who is part of Sharon from The Wee Crofts flock of high welfare Shetland sheep. You will learn all about the importance of local wool and how amazing it is as a fibre where you will get to interact with Ella and see where the wool we will be using in the day comes from. 

Heritage Craft tutor and enthusiast - Sophie from Forest and Dot will demonstrate the process of hand spinning from fibre to yarn and will spin up Ella’s beautiful wool into a hand spun yarn. You’ll get a chance to experience the raw wool by having a go at carding the wool on a drum carder and making a mini wool lavender bag. 

After lunch you will get to experience using the Wee Crofts Shetland wool yourself by either crocheting your own cosy wool headband or learning how to needle felt your own Scottish seaside scene. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon of crafting with tea and cake! Join Sophie, Crochet tutor and enthusiast for the crochet headband that will cover a range of stitches, helping expand your crochet knowledge and suitable for those who can crochet the basics already. If you can’t crochet then the needle felting is suitable for complete beginners where you will learn how to use Sharon’s beautiful wools to create your felted picture which then will be mounted and a lovely keepsake from your wool experience. You will also get a chance to browse Sharon’s kits and yarn - the yarn is grown less than a mile down the road!

The perfect treat for any craft lover, supporting two local businesses and beautiful heritage grown wool! 
This is a unique collaboration between two independent small local businesses. 


Order of the day: 
Arrival: 10am with hot drinks 
10-11am: Settle in and meet and greet Ella, chat about the amazing properties of wool
11-12pm: Hand spinning demo, playing with the raw wool 
12-1pm: Lunch and tea and cake 
1–3:30pm: Crochet Headband workshop or needle felted coastal scene workshop.  
3:30-4pm: Finishing up, a chance to buy kits and any other products and ask questions. 

Investment: £85 includes the whole day experience, workshop, materials and hot drinks and cake. 

Saturday 24th January 2026 from 10-4pm at Pluscarden Village Hall, Pluscarden, IV30 8TZ. 

The previous wool experience sold out quickly and spaces are limited to 10 people to make the experience as rich for all. 

The experience day is open to all. Basic crochet knowledge is required for the crochet floral coasters, if you can crochet a basic row or granny square then this would be suitable for you. If you can’t crochet then the needle felting is suitable for complete beginners. 

About your hosts: 
Sharon from the Wee Croft produces high welfare local Shetland wool from award winning fleeces. Sharon also created beautiful wool products and kits. 

Sophie from Forest and Dot is an experienced craft teacher   and has been teaching for over 7 years. She teaches a range of fibre craft workshops all over Scotland. 



T&C: Please note workshops are subject to run according to a certain number of bookings if these bookings are not met then the workshops will be cancelled on a 5 day notice. You will either get to transfer onto a new date or a refund will be given however no refunds can be given if you cancel less than 7 days before.   By purchasing this workshop you are agreeing to these terms. All workshops are non refundable. 



 * Adverse weather notice - due to the nature of adverse weather like snow or flooding with this situation being out of my control I cannot offer refunds if you or I need to cancel due to weather. I can only transfer your place onto a future date. If I need to cancel due to weather then I will of course reschedule the event and allow you a place on another available workshop or have credit in my web shop. Thank you for your understanding.
