TivoliVredenburg en De Helling presenteren: Ghinzu, een van de vetste rockbands van België. Of, in de woorden van Humo: ‘het hipste, geilste en luidste exportproduct van Brussel.’

Samen met andere Vlaamse reuzen als dEUS en Soulwax brak Ghinzu door in de vroege zeroes. Met z’n experimentele, slimme, keiharde alt.rock en oneilspellende pianoriffs zette Ghinzu z’n thuisstad op de kaart. Om na drie albums plots weer van het toneel te verdwijnen. Op de valreep gaven ze nog een zinderend optreden in De Helling, maar daarna was het toch echt finit voor het vijftal.

Nu, 16 jaar later, is Ghinzu terug met een nieuw album. ‘How was the waiting?’ Vraagt de band pesterig in z’n Spotify-bio. We hebben er inderdaad lang op moeten wachten, maar het resultaat maakt alles goed. Op album nummer vier gaat Ghinzu back to basics. Terug naar de invloeden die hen als band gevormd hebben: de eigenzinnigheid en expressie van Queen, en de onversneden noise van bands als Nirvana en The Melvins.

Eindelijk. Het wachten is voorbij. John Stargasm en zijn maats zijn terug. Hipper, geiler en luider dan ooit. En dat vraagt natuurlijk om een terugkeer naar – jawel – De Helling! Een full circle-momentje, waarbij deze Belrock-iconen even komen laten zien dat ze het nog kunnen.
