Yonder Mountain String Band, a driving force in roots music for nearly three decades and a key player in the progressive jamgrass movement, kicks off a new chapter with Nowhere Next. A mix of bluegrass, indie rock, and country with soulful, funky grooves, the album follows the Grammy-nominated Get Yourself Outside (2022) and adds depth and momentum to Yonder’s legacy.
Nowhere Next showcases founding members Adam Aijala, Dave Johnston, and Ben Kaufmann, alongside multi-instrumentalist Nick Piccininni and newcomer Coleman Smith. Together, they co-wrote nine of the eleven tracks, blending their perspectives and vocal ranges. Grammy-winning Dobro legend Jerry Douglas also lends his signature style to three standout songs.
Balancing nostalgia and innovation, Nowhere Next transitions from reflective storytelling to adventurous, genre-defying excursions, while revisiting two Yonder classics, “River” and “Didn’t Go Wrong.” Produced by the band, the album captures their collective synergy, edgy, heartfelt, and full of surprises, inviting listeners to experience Yonder at their most vibrant and unrestrained.
