Dr Robert Murray will present a lecture outlining the pioneering contributions of Dr Cameron Grant to Soil Science. As per tradition, Dr. Grant will give a 'right of reply' at the end of the Pioneer Lecture.This year the SA Branch of Soil Science Australia will hold the Pioneer Lecture in Room 206 (upstairs) in the Charles Hawker building.The event will be followed by nibbles on the Mcleod Lawns outside Beltana and networking and drinks at the Ediburgh Mitcham in the evening.To join register to view event online please follow THIS LINK2025 Pioneer Lecture Recipent:Dr Cameron GrantCameron was born in Ontario, Canada, where he trained in applied soil physics with Bev Kay and Pieter Groenevelt at the Univ. of Guelph (BScAgr Hons 1980; MSc 1984), then continued his training with Tony Dexter and Malcolm Oades at the Univ. of Adelaide (PhD 1989). He then took up a two year CSIRO Postdoctoral Fellowship working on the definition and measurement of self-mulching in clay soils with Bill Blackmore and Rob Fitzpatrick (1989 – 1992) and continued this work with a three year ARC Postdoctoral Fellowship at Univ. of Adelaide (1992 – 1995). He was appointed Lecturer at the Univ. of Adelaide, where he taught Soil Science at the Waite, Roseworthy and North Tce campuses for 20 years (1995 – 2015). During this period, he co-supervised some terrific Honours and Postgraduate students (mainly with Rob Murray), and did lots of administration, including Honours Coordination, Postgraduate Coordination, and Deputy Head of School (Postgraduate).Cameron also served on the SSA-SA Branch Committee as Treasurer and President, then President of the national body, Chair of the CPSS Board, and then CPSS Administrator. He was active in the Soil Judging movement, taking SA Teams to Tasmania, Victoria and Queensland, and helped organized the 2019 National Soil Judging Competition in SA.
