Due to such a good reception for our open mic poetry nights, we would like to introduce a new poetry event at gallery art bar.

Essentially this is a shorter open mic period and a longer form period for a featured poet!

We will still be doing our monthly open mic poetry night. This is an extra poetry-oriented night this month!

The format will be:

12 open mic poetry spots / 5 min per
Followed by a featured poet reading their work for 25-35 minutes
--DM us for an open mic spot or show up EARLY to sign up
The sign-up list is usually full after 7pm
Featured Poet: Ninetta DeBoni

Ninetta DeBoni is the 2026 Urbana Poet laureate!!

Born and bruised in central Illinois, Ninetta DeBoni is a poet, writer, and collage artist who works to capture the magnificent in the mundane: from the overlooked earthworm to the often-lacking language of law. Currently, they work as a publication assistant at a not-for-profit research organization, and can be found outside working hours at CU Poetry Workshop meetings and the Gallery Art Bar's open mic nights. Along with sharing their poetry locally, DeBoni's previous work can be found in College of DuPage's Prairie Light Review, Illinois Wesleyan's Tributaries, and SEZ Publishing's 2020 and 2026 Ghost Stories collections. DeBoni was the 2023 winner of the Arthur W. Hinners & Louise Hinners Sipfle Prize, and their poem "Crystallized Repentance" is featured on Poets.org. They live in Urbana, Illinois with their partner and three cats.
