Resources in Commons [ Workshop ]

What do we use every day that we do not really own?

From time and shared spaces to digital platforms and infrastructures, many of the resources we rely on daily are not individually owned but collectively used. Resources in Commons is an interdisciplinary workshop that brings together students from different disciplinary backgrounds to explore shared resources and the practices that sustain them. The workshop uses design tools as a collective inquiry method to map, discuss, and reflect on how common resources are accessed, used, and governed in everyday contexts.

The first part of the workshop focuses on the analysis of real cases of shared resources and how we access them. Working in interdisciplinary groups, participants use a mapping framework to observe relationships and responsibilities followed by a collective discussion to compare perspectives and insights.

The second part of the workshop shifts toward a foresight and envisioning phase. Building on the initial analysis, participants are invited to imagine how the same resources could work differently and how they might be strengthened as commons. Through rapid design exercises, students explore alternative scenarios and possibilities, using design as a critical and collaborative process rather than as a problem-solving tool.

The workshop encourages participants to reflect on shared resources as relational and collective practices, and to use design methods to support dialogue, exploration, and shared understanding across disciplines.
