# Event Details - **Event Name**: Motus Radio Tower Set Up Volunteer Day at Eden Landing in Hayward - **Event Start and End Date**: Sun, 22 Feb, 2026 at 08:30 am – Sun, 22 Feb, 2026 at 01:30 pm - **Event Description**: Help scientists set up Motus radio transmitter nodes at Eden Landing Ecological Reserve in Hayward, CA, to help study plovers!About this EventIn 2025, SFBBO conducted the first ever U.S. Western Snowy Plover Motus tagging study. Now, we’re getting ready to collect another year of data! Motus tags are a type of radio transmitter that send signals to nearby radio antennas. In order to get fine-scale movement data, we need to establish a grid of “nodes,” which are essentially miniature receivers that will collect data from deployed tags and transmit it to a full-size antenna. Last year, we set the nodes up across two ponds, E14 and E6B, but in 2026 we are making the decision to condense the grid so that all of the nodes are on E14. That means we have a smaller area to cover, but still over 50 nodes to set up, so we would love your help!To accomplish this, we will divide into teams and set the grid. Each team will be led by an SFBBO staff-member or experienced plover biologist, who will mark where each node should be placed. Then, the team will work together to erect the node at each point. Because this is a more technical activity that will require precision, we kindly ask that no children under 16 attend. Rubber boots are encouraged, but not required.Location: Meet at the parking lot for the Eden Landing North Parking Lot in Hayward, CA (37.622308, -122.122501). SFBBO staff will direct you to where you can park.Physical Activity: This event will involve lots of walking (over a mile) through potentially soft or slippery substrate. We will also be carrying 10-foot long metal poles, which are aluminum and hollow, but still cumbersome.Facilities: There are no restrooms at the site. Please plan accordingly.Health: If you feel sick, please stay home and inform us that you need to cancel.
