Come out to the farm and make something real.

We'll spend the afternoon planting lemon balm starts — grown right here at Elder Creek — into terra cotta pots we decorate together as tiny fairy houses. River stones, moss, bark doors. Hot glue and dirty hands. Something your kids will carry home and actually keep alive.

While everyone works, I'll read aloud a short fairytale I wrote for the occasion — rooted in the plant lore of the Ohio River Valley, where lemon balm has grown in cottage gardens and dooryards for generations.

Lemon balm is the herb the old herbalists called the herb that makes the heart merry. It's easy to grow, smells like summer, and your kids will probably try to eat it. That's fine.
