On the afternoon of Saturday February 21, 2026, surrounded by his family, Melvin passed away after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Through the surgeries, treatments and hospital stays, Melvin gave his all until the very end.
He leaves behind his wife of 17 years, Vera, to whom the burden of giving him a final send off so suddenly, now heavily rests on her shoulders. Unfortunately, with his cancers spreading and taking over different areas of his body so rapidly and unexpectedly they were unable to get any life insurance into motion.
Melvin passionately served his community as a volunteer firefighter for the Pinecroft Volunteer Fire Department from the time he was legally able to join, until he was retired and could no longer run calls. He and his late wife raised their family in the fire hall alongside his extended family members. He served as Fire Chief for nearly 30 years, ran PVFC bingos, was their bingo caller, and held multiple board titles over the years. A man that volunteered his life supporting others, it is our turn to return the care and love, and make sure he has a proper farewell.
