Set in the late 1970s, this hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era is outrageous, thought-provoking and even a little romantic. Pushed to the boiling point, three female coworkers concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot they call their boss. In a hilarious turn of events, Violet, Judy and Doralee live out their wildest fantasy – giving their boss the boot! While Hart remains "otherwise engaged," the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down. Hey, a girl can scheme, can't she? WHO IS DIRECTING? Our production of 9 to 5 will be directed by Nicki Dempsey with Choreography provided by Lara Miller. WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR? TCTC seeks male and female actors, singers, and dancers of all ethnicities, ages 18 to 60+ for this production. (All actors must have graduated high school before the production opens.) WHAT ROLES ARE AVAILABLE? VIOLET (Female, Age 40-50) - The company's Head Secretary and Mr. Hart's Administrative Assistant, she is a single mother and typically stands up for what she believes in. Attractive, strong, ambitious. Vocal Range: F3-D5 DORALEE (Female, Age 20-30) - A young, sexy spitfire who works at Mr. Hart's office. She is proof that there is more to a woman than just her looks. Vocal Range: G3-E5 JUDY (Female, Age 30-35) - The "new" girl at the firm, she has been burned by her husband's affair and is searching for personal empowerment. Insecure, determined, and hopeful. Vocal Range: Ab3-F5 FRANKLIN HART (Male, Age 45-50) - One of the firm's executives and a notorious chauvinist. He is capable of faking charm but usually shows his true colors as an arrogant, self-absorbed boss. Vocal Range: C3-Gb4 ROZ KEITH (Female, Age 35-45) - The attentive office gossip queen and snitch. She has an unrequited love for Mr. Hart and will do anything she can to win his approval. Vocal Range: G3-C5 JOE (Male, Age 25-35) - A handsome, young office accountant. Genuine and nice, and smitten with Violet. Vocal Range: B2-G4 DWAYNE (Male, Age 25-30) - Doralee's attractive husband. He is very supportive of her professional pursuits. Vocal Range: E2-G4 JOSH (Male, Age 15-18) - Violet's awkward teenage son. MISSY (Female, Age 20-35) - Franklin Hart's wife, clueless to her husband's true nature. MARIA (Female, Age 20-30) - A young and vibrant secretary in Hart's office. Vocal Range: F4-D5 DICK (Male, Age 35-45) - Judy's soon-to-be ex-husband. An average guy, he is sporting a little less hair and a little more paunch than he did ten years ago. KATHY (Female, Age 30-40) - A secretary in Hart's office with a tendency to gossip. Vocal Range: G4-D5 MARGARET (Female, Age 30-40) - A secretary in Hart's office with a tendency to drink. TINSWORTHY (Male, Age 50-65) - Franklin Hart's boss and Chairman of the Board. A good man, who may be wiser to Hart's ways than he lets on. ENSEMBLE (Any, Age 18+) - Office employees, police officers, hospital employees. WHERE WILL AUDITIONS BE HELD? All auditions and rehearsals will be in person at the Tyler Civic Theatre. WHAT SHOULD I PREPARE FOR THE AUDITION? Those auditioning are asked to prepare 16 measures of a Contemporary Broadway style song to be sung with recorded accompaniment. A sound system will be available for the playing of background tracks, but there will not be an accompanist available. A Capella Auditions will not be allowed. Please be prepared for “cold-readings” from the script and dress for movement (no jeans, sandals, flip flops, etc.) as there will be a short dance combination taught as part of the audition. WHEN WILL REHEARSALS BE HELD? Rehearsals will begin Monday, May 19th and will generally run Monday-Friday 6:15-9 PM with the possibility of slightly later nights on occasion and a Saturday rehearsal or two.
