We are happy to host Coyote & the Monsters Yet to Slay and Rhapsody in Hue, two bold and beautiful collections. Coyote & the Monsters Yet to Slay: Ryan Feddersen in the Community Gallery RYAN! Elizabeth Feddersen specializes in artworks which invite people to consider our relationships to history, culture, the land, and our non-human-kin. Now based in Tacoma, Feddersen grew up in Wenatchee and is an enrolled member of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation, and of mixed European descent. Her practice focuses on creative problem solving to address social issues through visual allegories that provide opportunities for exploration, introspection, and epiphany. Coyote & the Monsters Yet to Slay is a series of artworks which address contemporary social issues through the lens of Plateau storytelling. This solo exhibition of work by artist and Colville Tribal Member, Ryan Feddersen, explores Coyote’s role as a monster slayer and proposes modern day people-devouring monsters for Coyote to symbolically vanquish. Reflecting both the present and nods to traditional stories, the works are laced with humor, play, and imaginative symbolism. This body of work was supported by the NDN Collective’s Radical Imagination Grant. Feddersen will exhibit prints created in residency at Crow’s Shadow Art Institute and the Institute of American Indian Arts, glass vessels made at the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, and a new large-scale mixed-media work on paper. The Confluence is ecstatic to host this incredible, unique show. We encourage all who can to come see it and invite the community to get their first look at the opening reception on October 11th. Rhapsody in Hue Music moves us physically and emotionally. It generates mood, ideas and energy. Music heals and activates our minds in ways we are still discovering today. What else does music do? It often informs art. In this exhibit we invited artists that understand this connection to explore the inspiration music has on their work. What do you artists listen to when creating? How does music manifest in their work? As we celebrate the 101st year of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, let us also celebrate the power of music across creative disciplines and admire how brush, chisel and pencil often dance in response to its call.
