Several West Michigan Kayaking Club leaders, including Brad De Young, plan to attend the symposium, and we intend to make this a West Michigan Kayaking Club group event for members who would like to participate. As soon as WMCKA releases the official 2027 symposium details—including the confirmed dates, schedule, registration information, pricing, and other event details—we will update this event accordingly. Learn • Paddle • Play Ready to kick off your paddling season in style? The WMCKA Kayak Symposium is three days of adventure, learning, and community, set on the warm, clear waters of Big Blue Lake at YMCA Camp Pendalouan. Whether you’re brand new to kayaking or looking to sharpen your skills, the symposium offers an opportunity to learn, build confidence, and connect with an incredible paddling community. The symposium is designed primarily for beginner and intermediate paddlers who want to develop their skills while having fun on the water. With a low student-to-instructor ratio, participants receive personal attention from passionate, certified instructors. On Saturday morning, paddling groups will come together and discuss what they would like to learn during the weekend. Coaches will then work with each group to focus on those goals and create a weekend of learning tailored to their interests. Skills May Include • Essential strokes and boat control • Rescue and re-entry techniques • Becoming more comfortable and confident in your kayak • Techniques for safely taking your paddling onto bigger water • And much more For All Ages Kayaking is for everyone! Adults can participate in full-day skill sessions, while youth ages 7–14 can take part in their own specially designed program featuring on-water activities, camp games, and adventure. More Than Just Classes When you’re not on the water, the symposium is all about community. • Evening gatherings and campfires • Trip stories and paddling conversations • Panel discussions and presentations • Great meals at the Camp Pendalouan Lodge • Plenty of time to relax and connect with paddlers from across the country Stay Your Way Participants can bring a tent or small RV, with limited RV spots available, or stay in one of the camp’s cabins. Meals from Friday dinner through Monday breakfast are included, with vegetarian options available.
