Bernard Rosen käsikirjoittama ja ohjaama alkuperäinen Candyman (1992) oli tärkeä klassikko black horror -elokuvan historiassa. Clive Barkerin novelliin “Kielletty” (The Forbidden, 1985) perustuvassa tarinassa väitöskirjaa valmisteleva antropologi kiinnostuu köyhällä mustien asuinalueella kiertävästä urbaanista legendasta, jonka mukaan myyttinen Candyman kutsutaan esiin toistamalla hänen nimensä viisi kertaa peilin edessä. Antirasistisesta uraauurtavuudestaan huolimatta elokuva nojasi ongelmallisesti ns. valkoisen pelastajan ajatukseen, ja vuoden 2021 versio – jonka tuottajana on 2020-luvulle tultaessa black horrorista valtavirtaa tehnyt Jordan Peele – onkin paitsi eräänlainen jatko-osa myös korjausliike, jolla tarina palautetaan mustan kulttuurin ja yhteisön piiriin. Accessibility: Kirjakahvila is located in the Brinkkala courtyard, which is is paved with round cobblestones. An accessible pathway goes through the yard, but not all the way to Kirjakahvila's
