During Tulsa LitFest 2026 (Thursday, April 23 - Sunday, April 26, 2026) novelist and writing professor Morris Collins will offer personal, one-on-one consultations with prose writers interested in receiving professional feedback. Morris is the author of two novels: Horse Latitudes and The Tavern at the End of History, both published by Dzanc.

Once you have signed up for a consultation, you will receive a request for your materials from the Center for Poets and Writers (no more than 25 double-spaced pages). Consultation meeting times/locations will be arranged via email as well.

From Morris Collins:

My goal is to help the writers I work with write the story, novel, or poem that they want to write, rather than reshape their work according to generic conventions. My consultations begin by identifying a writer’s intentions and recognizing what they are doing well—so that they can better develop their work in those directions. My creative mantra is that through attention to the word comes the world and I believe that good writing begins with an attention to syntax, line and sentence; so in addition to large scale formal and narrative feedback, I can provide line edits to help reveal and distil a writer’s most compelling traits. Depending on the project I can provide prompts for generating new ideas, discuss plotting, or consider strategies for revision. I can offer feedback on novel excerpts, short stories, flash fiction, creative nonfiction, as well as applications to creative writing programs.

The winning story was selected by Amor Towles and appeared in the 2024 edition of The Best Short Stories 2024: The O. Henry Prize Winners. Other fiction and poetry has appeared in Subtropics, Gulf Coast, Pleiades, Michigan Quarterly Review, The Chicago Quarterly Review and The Florida Review, among others.
