"Indian Territory: Surviving 160 Acres of Betrayal" tells the story of Tvlse/Tulsa, Indian Territory/Oklahoma—through the lives of two young Mvskoke girls navigating the turbulent years of the Allotment Era. As their family’s land and future come under threat, they confront betrayal, suspicious deaths, and conspiracies used to strip American Indian families of their land, wealth, and security. Author Tatianna Keblish Duncan, a Mvskoke/Cherokee descendant of those who lived this history, draws from family records and years of research to reveal how these events shaped both her ancestors’ lives and the foundation of modern Tulsa. Rather than focusing solely on federal policy, Duncan centers the lived experiences of Creek families who found themselves targets because they were Indians whose allotted land held wealth others were determined to take.

About the Author:

Tatianna Keblish Duncan is a Mvskoke/Cherokee author and researcher dedicated to uncovering the hidden history of the Allotment Era in Indian Territory. A descendant of Mvskoke families forced west during removal, she founded the Lucinda Hickory Research Institute to investigate the stories and records left behind by her ancestors. Duncan is a twenty-year U.S. Navy veteran raised in Eucha, Oklahoma.
