Reflecting on the suicide of her father, graphic novelist Alison dives deep into her past to tell the story of the volatile, brilliant, one-of-a-kind man whose temperament and secrets defined her family and her life. Moving between past and present, Alison relives her unique childhood playing at the family’s Bechdel Funeral Home, her growing understanding of her own sexuality, and the looming, unanswerable questions about her father’s hidden desires. Fun Home is a refreshingly honest, wholly original musical about seeing your parents through grown-up eyes.

This one-act, non-linear musical is an adaptation of the autobiographical graphic novel by Alison Bechdel. It deals with the queer experience in the 1970s, self-discovery, and generational trauma.

Content Warnings:

This show has coarse language, homophobic language, verbal abuse, discussion and depiction of suicide, depictions of and allusions to cannabis use, grooming, consensual and non-consensual staged intimacy.

ABOUT THE AUDITION

We are asking auditioners to bring a 32-bar cut of a musical theatre song of your choice. We will have an accompanist, so please bring an extra copy of the sheet music for the pianist.

Video auditions will also be accepted.

Callbacks will consist of singing excerpts from the show as well as reading sides.

If callbacks are needed they will be held Sunday, March 29 at Theatre Tulsa’s studio space. Callback notifications will be sent no later than March 16 at 1pm.

VIDEO AUDITIONS

Video auditions may be submitted through the form linked above. Videos are due by March 15.

Rehearsals will begin mid-April. Rehearsal schedule TBD.

Performances will be June 5-14, 2026 at the TT Studios (5521 S Peoria Ave).
