- **Event Description**: Living Arts of Tulsa is proud to present a special screening of Free Men, the acclaimed documentary about artist Kenneth Reams.About this EventJoin us on Saturday, April 11 from 2:00-4:00 pm for a screening of the award-winning documentary film Free Men by Anne-Frédérique Widmann.Kenneth's exhibition Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Decides?, created in collaboration with Isabelle Watson Reams, is on display at Living Arts through May, with support from Just Arts Gallery. The April 11 film screening will be followed by a conversation with Kenneth’s legal team and his wife and artistic collaborator Isabelle Watson Reams.About the film:Free Men tells Kenneth’s story of finding art while incarcerated and details his legalbattle for freedom. In 1993, Kenneth Reams became the youngest person on Arkansas’s death row when he was convicted of capital felony M**der while the actual shooter received a life without parole sentence. He has now spent over three decades in Pr*son, including more than 25 years in solitary confinement. Today, Kenneth is serving a life without parole sentence, after the Arkansas Supreme Court vacated his death sentence in 2018 due to the ineffectiveness of his trial counsel.Over the years, Kenneth has transformed his life behind bars into a platform for creativity, advocacy, and personal growth. With no formal training, he began pursuing art from his Pr*son cell, developing a powerful and emotionally resonant style. His work, which focuses on themes of incarceration, social justice, and hope, has been exhibited across the U.S. and internationally.Free Men details Kenneth’s life, case, and issues surrounding the death penalty in America. With unprecedented access to his daily life, the film raises universal questions: How can we fight injustice? How can we continue to move forward and find a sense of purpose in life? Free Men has been recognized at festivals around the world, including the FIFDH Geneva Human Rights Film Festival, the Austin Film Festival, and the Montreal International Black Film Festival, where it received an Honorable Mention. Following the screening, audiences are invited to join us for a moderated talkback with members of Kenneth Reams’ legal team, who will speak to the ongoing fight for justice on his behalf and the broader issues of racial injustice in capital punishment. Joining them will be Isabelle Watson Reams, Kenneth’s wife, artistic collaborator, and advocate. Isabelle will speak to the process of co-creating the powerful exhibition on display at Living Arts and the human story at the heart of this film. Please join us for this unique opportunity to engage directly with the people working to free Kenneth Reams and to explore the intersection of art and justice.
