- **Event Description**: Mark January 25, 2026, on your calendar as we celebrate 100 years of the founding of Saint Paul's Church in Balbalasang, the first Episcopalian mission in the provinces of Kalinga and Abra in northern Philippines. 

Per records of the church, the mission was established by the Episcopal Church of the USA upon the invitation of the people of Inalangan (now Saltan), Paswal (Balbalasang proper), Talalang and Sesec-an. The invitation was inscribed in a petition dated Nov. 11, 1925, bearing the signatures of leaders and elders of the said villages. Not only did the Episcopal Church build a church but also a Dispensary, located in Balbalasang proper, with the nurse serving in a dual capacity as a catechist. 

The missionaries of St. Paul's gradually expanded their ministry by building satellite missions and doing outreach work in villages of Pasil municipality of Kalinga and of Dagioman, Malibcong and Baay-Licuan in Abra. In 1946, the mission also built Saint Paul's Memorial School (SPMS, later renamed SPMSKI), which until now is the only Episcopal Church-run secondary school in Abra and Kalinga.
