About this Event

This three-day introductory course in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) provides a comprehensive, practical foundation for clinicians seeking to understand and implement evidence-based behavioral sleep medicine. The program begins with core concepts, including an overview of CBT-I, the value of learning behavioral approaches to insomnia, and a crash course in sleep science and sleep disorders. Participants explore the definition and models of insomnia, clarify what CBT-I is—and is not—and review the role of medications in treatment. Foundational behavioral components, including Sleep Restriction Therapy and Stimulus Control Therapy, are introduced in depth and reinforced through interactive lunch and dinner discussions.

Day 2 builds on these fundamentals with structured review and hands-on implementation strategies for stimulus control, sleep restriction, and cognitive therapy. Attendees learn how to conduct initial evaluations, orient patients to treatment, utilize sleep diaries, integrate assessment tools, address maladaptive sleep effort, and incorporate relaxation and mindfulness strategies. The course also covers termination planning and relapse prevention, with case-based discussion emphasizing real-world clinical application.

On Day 3, the focus shifts to practice management and implementation in diverse clinical settings, including integrating CBT-I into existing workflows, responding to wearable sleep data, and addressing advanced topics such as pediatric considerations, comorbid sleep disorders, and adjunctive modalities. The program concludes with guidance on certification, ongoing training, and professional development, equipping participants with both the knowledge and practical skills needed to confidently deliver CBT-I in everyday clinical practice.
