Exploring the Arizona National Scenic Trail — Wendy Lotze
Did you know that the Arizona National Scenic Trail stretches 800 miles across Arizona between the Mexican and Utah borders - even though the state is only 400 miles long? Or that it's one of only three such trails in the nation that is uninterrupted from end to end? Or that it's the only one in the country that is entirely open to mountain bikers (except through wilderness areas, where there are bike trails around)? Come to the hiking club's first program of the 2025-26 season and enjoy a photographic tour of the Arizona National Scenic Trail. We'll learn more about this unique cultural resource. Our guest speaker will be Wendy Lotze, a fourth-generation Arizonan who worked for 10 years as the Arizona Trail Association's director of volunteer programs and is currently a lecturer in the College of Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Planning at the University of Arizona. Whether you've hiked the trail, just thought about hiking the trail, or longed for a way to help maintain the trail for future generations to enjoy, Wendy is sure to tell you something you didn't already know.
