- **Event Description**: Did you know that Arizona has an official state dinosaur? It's the Sonorasaurus! Based on the fossils, it is estimated that the dino was about 50 feet long and weighed 4,000 pounds. Come see the REAL Sonorasaurus fossils (only at the Desert Museum) and join us for a journey back in time!


🦖 Tonight's Schedule:

6:00 Dinosaur Costume Contest and Parade
Begins at Front Entrance. Ends at Taylor Plaza. This is the event you have been waiting for all your life (or since you were five years old)! Get creative and start working on your alter-egosaurus. Open to all ages, but ONLY HOME-MADE COSTUMES and NO MASKS will be entered. There will be a judging station and prizes. The Best of Show prize will be a private tour through the museum’s Paleontology Lab. Prizes for Best Acting, Most Original, Most Scary, and Most Accurate will be authentic Devonian (pre-Dinosaur age) fossils from southern Arizona.

6:00 – 9:00 Games/Stations in/out of the Baldwin Education Building

Community Art Project: 
6:30-8:30 p.m. Ironwood Gallery 
Help inspire a new public artwork for Morris K. Udall Park!
Join artist Sasha Primo for a fun, family-friendly activity exploring what the Sonoran Desert means to you. Through quick sketches, words, and conversation, participants will help create a collective portrait of the desert that will inspire Sasha's creative process for a new public artwork.
No artistic experience is needed, just bring your curiosity! Stop by and participate at your own pace. Learn more about Sasha Primo and his work at www.sashaprimo.com.

Presentations in the Warden Oasis Theater:
7:00 p.m. Digging Up the Truth
Dinosaur discovery has come a long way over the past 100 years. Learn about the latest finds and theories on the dinosaur family tree, on feathers, feet, and the difference between fact and fiction.
Nicholas Powers is a Desert Museum Education Specialist who teaches kids’ summer camps, does outreach and loves dinosaurs.

8:00 p.m. Cretaceous Park: Arizona
It was 100 million years in the making. Find out what it was like and who was living here when Sonorasaurus roamed the Earth.
Richard Thompson is a Senior Lecturer, Emeritus at the University of Arizona and discoverer of Sonorasaurus thompsoni, Arizona’s state dinosaur.

Live Music on the Ironwood Patio: 
6:30 - 8:30 p.m.  Vibe to the tunes of Country Pop / Zonafolk artist Jacob Acosta. 

Throughout the Night:
Look for Museum Docents around grounds interpreting live animals, celestial desert skies, fluorescent minerals, bats, kissing bugs, scorpions, rattlesnakes, and more!

6:00 - 9:30 p.m. Stingray Touch Exhibit
Admission: $2 Members / $4 Non-Members
Visitors are able to create their own moments with these captivating creatures at the Stingray Touch experience. The pool features cow nose stingrays that guests can interact with. Be touched by a ray!

6:00 - 10:00 p.m. Packrat Playhouse
This indoor play space allows children to discover the desert through the eyes of a packrat! Packrat Playhouse may reach capacity. 30-minute reserved play times are available at the Packrat Playhouse entrance.

6:00 - 9:00 p.m. Art Exhibits
'Sonoran Treasures' is on view in the Ironwood Gallery. Through this juried selection of 2D and 3D works, the Southern Arizona Arts Guild (SAAG) examines the interconnected relationships between flora, fauna, and the distinctive geology of the Southwest. 'Sonoran Treasures' takes an intimate look at the rich diversity of plants and animals that define the Sonoran Desert, fostering a deeper appreciation for the desert and encouraging thoughtful stewardship of its remarkable yet vulnerable landscape.
"Of Bears, Bulbs & Berries' opens today in the Baldwin Gallery! This photographic exhibition by Jimmy Fike invites viewers to look beyond landscape as scenery and to consider it as a living system shaped by ecological relationships of use, and loss.

🌙 ABOUT COOL SUMMER NIGHTS:

Open till 10:00 p.m. on Saturdays June–August! Cool Summer Nights is included with Museum Admission.

The Desert Museum is lovely during the day, but it’s even cooler after dark! Join us every Saturday night throughout the summer to beat the heat while learning something neat! The desert comes alive at night as nocturnal animals awake: Bats perform aerial acrobatics in pursuit of dinner, otters splash around in their pond, and scorpions glow green under black light. Bring your flashlight and explore, grab a refreshing drink and wander, experience a live animal encounter, scamper in Packrat Playhouse, feel the touch of a stingray, or participate in special nightly activities.
