The charming Audrey Tautou helps the whole world find love in director Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s delightfully oddball French romantic fantasy, Amélie. When Amélie (Tautou), a painfully shy waitress working at a tiny Parisian café, discovers an old box of childhood treasures hidden beneath the floorboards of her apartment, she embarks on a madcap odyssey to transform the lives of her neighbors and the café regulars by helping them find happiness – in the most delightfully unexpected ways. From returning the box of childhood mementos to its rightful owner to helping two disgruntled cynics in her café find love, Amelie’s mission of goodwill is bringing joy to everyone around her, and yet she herself remains lonely. But when she turns her attentions to Nino (Mathieu Kassovitz), a lonely adult video store clerk and part-time carnival spook-show ghost who collects pictures left behind at photo booths around Paris, she might just find a little true romance for herself! Bringing the stylish visual wit and offbeat sensibility of his previous films, Delicatessen and The City of Lost Children, to this whimsical tale of love, fate and the power of positivity, Jean-Pierre Jeunet has created one of the most refreshingly unique romantic comedies ever made.
