1st Day Hike - Elephant Butte Dam

Join us in celebrating 2026 with a walk across the historic Elephant Butte Dam! This special event is for foot traffic only, offering a unique chance to get up close and learn about this monumental structure.

Choose your path:
The North Route: A scenic 3-mile round trip, starting from the Dirt Dam parking lot.

The South Route: A shorter, 1/2-mile round trip perfect for a quick walk, starting from the dam overlook.

Bring the whole family for an unforgettable experience! Mark your calendars and get ready to walk.

Out-of-state residents. Please bring exact cash or check or display a valid New Mexico State Parks annual pass.
