A Melody That Connects Hearts
Music has always felt to me like one of the warmest ways people can connect with one another. It has a unique ability to share emotions, comfort, and understanding beyond what words alone can express. Through music, I have learned that even when people come from different cultures and speak different languages, they can still understand each other through a single melody.

I am currently involved in CEC's Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, Senior Combo, Choir, and Resonance, where I continue to experience many different forms of ensemble music and performance. Although classical music is the genre closest to my heart, I also enjoy exploring jazz, choral music, musical theatre, and many other styles that continue to broaden my musical perspective.

Along with studying piano, flute, and voice, I have also continued playing the Janggu, a traditional Korean percussion instrument. Growing up between Korean and Canadian cultures has given me the opportunity to appreciate music from different traditions and viewpoints. Through these experiences, I am learning that while every style of music carries its own unique beauty and emotion, they all ultimately share the power to move people's hearts.

Over the past two years, I have also been part of my school's musical pit band, an experience that has taught me the importance of teamwork, responsibility, and trust. While the audience's attention is naturally focused on the actors and the stage, the musicians behind the scenes quietly help shape the emotional flow of the performance. Through long rehearsals and shared moments of concentration, I have come to understand how even a single note can influence an entire performance. Those experiences have deepened not only my musical skills, but also the way I approach music itself.

Participating in the Truro Music Festival in piano, flute, and voice has also allowed me to grow through a variety of performance experiences. However, music has never felt like competition alone to me. I believe the true meaning of music is found in the moments when it brings comfort, peace, or even a small light into someone's difficult day.

Most of all, I feel deeply grateful to be learning as a Choral Apprentice under the guidance of the wonderful musician and teacher, Chris Bowman. Singing and working within an ensemble has shown me how important it is to truly listen to others and create harmony together. Those experiences have shaped not only my musical growth, but also the way I understand and respect people around me.

More than simply performing for an audience, I have come to believe that music is about sincerely reaching toward people's hearts. A performer can offer comfort, courage, and rest through music, while listeners may discover their own emotions and meaning within the very same performance. Even if I do not pursue music professionally in the future, I know music will always remain an important part of my life - a meaningful language that continues to connect people and helps us understand one another more deeply. As I continue my life journey, I hope to sincerely connect with others through music and become someone whose music leaves a warm and lasting echo in the hearts of others.
