When Texas's Krause List targeted 850 books focused on race and LGBTQIA+ stories, it set off a wave of book bans sweeping across the country at an unprecedented rate. This film follows the librarians on the front lines—facing harassment, threats, and laws designed to criminalize their work—as they connect the dots between heated school board meetings and the deeper forces driving censorship in America. Their rallying cry for the freedom to read is both an inspiration and a warning.

Following the screening, we'll host a panel discussion on book banning and intellectual freedom featuring AnnaLee Dragon, Executive Director of the New York Library Association; Elise Kline, Reporter at WMHT; and Maureen Hall Squier, Director of the School Library System at QUESTAR. Come ready to talk, ask questions, and leave with a deeper understanding of what's at stake.

The film is open captioned. Troy Public Library is an accessible building, with a ramp to the left of the main entrance and an elevator to the second floor. Street parking is available; there are designated handicapped spaces on the same block, but not immediately in front of the building.
