About the artist:
Kinloch Nelson has been playing guitar for fun since 1956, seriously since 1968 and professionally since 1973. Over his decades‑long performance career, he has played folk, classical, ragtime, American primitive, new age, R&B, surf, rock, country, jazz and original compositions in bands, ensembles and as a solo performer and composer. He has performed at clubs, concert halls and guitar‑focused events around the country; taught generations of students; and championed the six‑string sound wherever he goes—most recently adding the many‑stringed harp guitar, an instrument he assembled himself.

Nelson has been reviewed in Just Jazz Guitar, Fretboard Journal, Rolling Stone and Mojo. He has contributed transcriptions and instructional videos to Acoustic Guitar, performed for NPR and PBS, and released CDs and vinyl on Tompkins Square, Heartland, BKNjr and Sampler Records.

Over the years, Nelson has performed with artists including Tom Paxton, Amos Garrett and Buddy Guy. Recent concerts have included appearances with Stephen Bennett, Muriel Anderson, Teja Gerken (Acoustic Guitar magazine), Al Petteway (known for work on Ken Burns documentaries) and Wings alumnus Laurence Juber.

Nelson studied classical guitar with British guitarist and composer Stanley Watson, music theory at the University of Rochester, and jazz guitar at the Eastman School of Music with Gene Bertoncini. His teaching experience includes 25 years at the Hochstein School of Music in Rochester, four years at the Maryland Summer Center for the Arts in Baltimore and numerous workshops at U.S. and Canadian guitar festivals since 2004. He is also an amateur luthier and a hang glider pilot.
