Intro to Public Speaking workshop 🗣
This pilot day-workshop is a supportive, confidence-building space to explore speaking and presenting skills: experiment, practise, and grow. Held in the bright & spacious hall of St.John's Parish Centre, just a 5 minute walk from Trowbridge railway station.
In the morning we will explore techniques to prepare mind & body, free your voice, unlock words and language & understand non-verbal communication.
In the afternoon we will work on speech exercises, and take this into practising a simple, individual speech. You can work on your own speech (should you have one) or choose from a range of short texts (shared in advance). You will have small group and whole-group practise, with expert guidance from Helen and friendly feedback from participants.
We will cover -
Mindset: set yourself up for success (& silence the speaking-gremlins)
Breath & Body: release tension, focus, and connect to your vocal power
Voice & speech exercises - tuning the instrument
Crafting the conversation & learning to listen
Body language & gesture
Using words & language - make your words work for you!
Videoed speech practise (to take away & review)
Toolkit of key exercises to take home
There will be a short questionnaire to complete in advance of the workshop, to establish your goals in attending. All info will be shared via email following your booking.
This pilot workshop is reduced by more than 60% - participants are requested to contribute their feedback on the techniques used, both during the day and afterwards, to help shape the most effective training in public speaking. Thank you 🙏🏻
About Helen:
Helen studied Performing Arts and has worked as an actor, voiceover artist, and Yoga instructor. She gained an MFA in Professional Voice Studies in 2024 from Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Since then she has been coaching business professionals, second-language speakers and creatives in voice, speech, presentation and performance skills. She believes that working on your voice not only enables you to communicate more effectively, but also allows you to blossom & grow as a human 😊

-Arrive from 9.30am - get a cuppa and meet your fellow participants
-There will be a short morning & afternoon break, and lunch from 12.45-1.30pm
