Part 1: Classes with Andrea Sørlie Barrett (week 3-9)
In the classes we will have together I will invite us to explore a range of different qualities including power, determination, letting go, sharpness, softness and grounding. We will work on weaving these qualities together and letting them take us into unknown territory. We will explore this through improvisation, embodiment exercises, choreography and play. It will be fun!
Bio: Andrea Sørlie Barrett is a dance artist based in Trondheim. She graduated from Oslo National Academy of the Arts in 2021 with a BA in contemporary dance. She worked as a freelance dance artist in Oslo until 2024 and has worked with choreographers such as Ingri Fiksdal, Fieldworks, Tora Midtbø and Tendai Makurumbandi. Currently she is training to become a certified mentor in a method called «Kiloby Inquries» - a somatic self-inquiry method that addresses emotional holding patterns that causes us to struggle. She works the most with contacting repressed anger. One of Andreas big interests in dance is the joy of embodying a wide range of qualities and using dance as a vessel for expansion and expression.
Part 2: Classes with Anna Thu Schmidt (week 10-23)
Enjoy dancing with yourself and with others!
The classes offer practice in contemporary dance where we develop body awareness, discover our own unique dance, and expand our movement vocabulary. Each class starts with a gentle warm-up to connect with ourselves in a safe space and to explore our own movements through dance improvisation. After connecting with the space and each other, we continue with technical exercises, floor work, and movement phrases across the floor. The last part of the class is dedicated to composition tasks and working with choreography.
Bio: Anna Thu Schmidt is a dance artist with a passion for dance improvisation, interdisciplinary collaborations, site-specific performances, and integrated dance. She is based in Trondheim after living in Germany, the Netherlands, and Indonesia. She holds a B.A. in Dance in Education from ArtEZ (NL) and an M.A. in Dance Studies from NTNU. Besides Samtidsdans for voksne Anna also leads ImproDans Trondheim, and started up PRAXIS Trondheim and Ecstatic Dance in Trondheim. She is passionate about creating safe spaces where everyone can freely express themselves through dance. One of her main performance projects is 'How to read water' which explores the relationship between the human body and the ocean.
