Tripoli ( Trablus) Located 85 kilometers north of Beirut, Tripoli is the country’s second largest city and one of the most traditional places in Lebanon.
The Phoenicians founded in the 9th century BC a union which was the first of it- kind between the Phoenician cities of Tyre, Sidon and Arwad, and it became the capital of this Union, as supported by discovered coins (188 BC) bearing a Phoenician inscription. The Greeks called it Tripolis - the triangular city - after Alexander the Macedonian seized it from the Persians in the 4th century BC. It was under the Romans in the late 1st century BC and gained a significant importance to be called the Holy City in the 2nd century AD. In the 4th century AD, it was conquered by the Byzantines, until the Arab Muslims came in 644 AD and became in the Umayyad era the center of the Umayyad war armada. Then the city fell under the Abbasids then the Fatimids reign, then it gained its independence in the 11th century AD and witnessed the most prosperous periods of its history during : "Bani Ammar" reign. Its main library was called back then the "House of Science" which was widely recognized throughout the ancient world. At the beginning of the 12th century the Crusaders seized the city and became the capital of the province of Tripoli. Nearly two centuries later, the Mamluks came and destroyed the ancient city along the seaside and established the city we know today; they excelled with the architecture and they take credit for this historical treasure that distinguishes old Tripoli today. Ottoman Turks entered Tripoli in the 16th century and it remained a very important city in their era on the coast of the Levant until it became part of "Greater Lebanon" and the second Lebanese city following Beirut after the independence of Lebanon.

• Trip - Walk Duration: 2,5 hrs
• Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring Jacket .
• Meeting point in Gallery Semaan area - Camille Chamoun Blvd, near Wesleys .(Parking is available).
We can pick up the hikers who live on our way.
• Departure time at 12:15 Noon - Return time will be at 10:00 pm.
Please ensure to have in your backpack at least: Hat, Sunglasses, Sunscreen .
• Contribution : 23 $ or Equal to LBP (which includes guides, Local Tour guide (Arabic) and transportation , but doesn't includes the Dinner .

انضموا إلينا يوم السبت في رحلة جديدة إلى شمال لبنان: طرابلس سيتي تور، وافطار رمضاني .
أسس فيها الفينيقيون في القرن التاسع قبل الميلاد اتحادا هو الأول مـن نـوعـه بين المدن الفينيقية الثلاث صـور وصيدا وأرواد ، ثم أصبحت عاصمة للإتحاد الـفـيـنـيـقـي كـمـا تـدل النقود المعدنية المكتشفة والمـسـكـوكـة عام ۱٨٨ قبل الميلاد والتي كانت تحمل كتابة فينيقية . أطلق عليها اليونانيون اسم " تريبوليس " - المدينة المثلثة - بعدما استولى عليها الاسكندر المقدوني من الـفـرس في القرن الرابع قبل الميلاد ، دخلها الرومان في اواخـر الـقـرن الأول قبل الميلاد وأصحبت ذات أهمية حتى انها لقبت بالمدينة المقدسة في القرن الثاني للميلاد . في القرن الرابع للميلاد استولى عليها البيزنطيون ، حتى جاء الـعـرب المسلمون عام ٦٤٤ ميلادية وأصبحت في عهد الأمويين مـركـزا للأسطول الحربي الأموي . ثم جاء العباسيون ، ثم الفاطميون ، الذين استقلت طرابلس عنهم في القرن الحادي عشر الميلادي لتشهد أكثر فترات تاريخها ازدهارا على يد " بني عمار " ، واشتهرت مكتبتها " دار العلم " في انحاء العالم القديم . في بداية القرن الثاني عشر للميلاد دخلها الصليبيون وأصبحت عاصمة كونتية طرابلس ، بعـد قـرابة قرنين من الزمان جاء المماليك وهدموا المدينة القديمة على البحر وأقاموا المدينة التي نعرفها الـيـوم والتي ابدعوا في عمارتها ، ويعود اليهم الفضل في هذا الكنز التاريخي الذي يميز طـرابلـس الـقـديمـة اليـوم . دخلها الأتراك العثمانيون في القرن السادس عشر وبقيت في عهدهم ذات شأن على ساحل الشام ، حتى أصبحت جزءاً من " لبنان الكبير " والمدينة اللبنانية الثانية بعد بيروت بعد استقلال لبنان.
