Washington crossed New Jersey over three days in June 1775 on a journey that would prove a prelude to the eight years of the Revolutionary War to come. 

Follow George Washington’s first “Journey Through Jersey” as Commander in Chief on this walk through historic Trenton. Meet at the 1719 William Trent House, 15 Market Street, Trenton, NJ 08611. Dress for the weather, wear sturdy footgear and bring water and snacks. The walk to and from the Trenton Makes Bridge covers about 2 ½ miles and takes about 1 ½ hours.

Arrive early for the lecture presentation George Washington Takes Command: The Journey Through Jersey, Sunday, July 6, 2025, 2 p.m. at the 1719 William Trent House, 15 Market Street, Trenton, NJ 08611.

Before or after the lecture, visit Oh Freedom! Blacks on the Battlefront and in the Aftermath of the Revolutionary War in New Jersey, a traveling exhibit from New Jersey State Parks, Forests & Historic Sites.
