About the event

La Cafamore: Her Voice in Chamber with Afternoon Tea - The Classical Series
Enjoy the up close and personal setting of afternoon tea, a sweet treat, and music as Trail & District Arts Council presents La Cafamore: Her Voice in Chamber- Piano Quartets by women composers, an on-stage audience experience at The Bailey Theatre on Sunday, March 22 at 3:00 pm as part of our Classical series.

Step onto the stage and into the music. For this intimate cabaret-style concert, the audience joins La Cafamore right where the magic happens—seated at cozy tables just a few feet from the performers.

Pianist Nina Horvath, violinist Carolyn Cameron, violist Angela Snyder, and cellist Anne Scott bring to life a collection of brilliant, rarely heard works by women composers of the 19th and 20th centuries.

They perform works of such greats as Emilie Mayer, nicknamed the “female Beethoven”, and
whose works were widely performed during her lifetime, but fell into obscurity after her death in
1883. Also on the program, Mel Bonis’ piano quartet; born Melanie, Bonis signed all her works as Mel, so as not to be prejudged based on her gender. Then there is Louise Héritte- Viardot, a composer and teacher, who was able to maintain a professional career as a musician in 19th century Europe. All of these talented women created which.

These beautiful piano quartets, long overlooked, sparkle with passion, depth, and originality, and deserve to be heard.

So, treat your musical appetite as you indulge in a delightful afternoon of classical music while you enjoy traditional style tea. Sip from beautiful china cups and savour a sweet treat while sitting up front and close to the artists on the Bailey theatre stage…..You’ll love the acoustics in that room.

Stage space is limited and general seating.
