- **Event Name**: June 22 Milkweed Monitoring For Monarchs Training Session
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sun, 22 Jun, 2025 at 09:00 am
- **Event Description**: Are you interested in learning how to monitor monarch butterflies and contribute to conservation efforts? The Milkweed Monitoring for Monarchs initiative is looking for volunteers to help track monarch eggs and larvae on Showy Milkweed this summer.

Join us for a field-based training workshop on Milkweed Monitoring for Monarchs on Sunday, June 22, from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Montrose Hill! Co-hosted by the Kootenay Native Plant Society and the Sinixt Confederacy, this hands-on session will teach participants how to identify monarch eggs and larvae on Showy Milkweed using the Monarch Larva Monitoring Program (MLMP) protocol.

Participants will meet at the outdoor picnic area in Beaver Creek Provincial Park at 9:00 AM, then convoy to Montrose Hill for training. The session will cover monarch life stages, monitoring techniques, site description, and how to contribute to citizen science initiatives like Mission Monarch and MLMP.
You’ll also have the opportunity to adopt a local milkweed patch or monitoring route, directly supporting recovery efforts for the SARA-listed western monarch butterfly.

This training is perfect for those passionate about conservation, pollinators, and native plant stewardship.

Participants should come prepared for rugged terrain, walking on uneven ground, and bring water, sturdy footwear, long pants (there is poison ivy nearby), sunscreen, and a notebook or clipboard. Bring a safety vest for visibility if you have one, we will have a few on hand for those without.

Bonus! After the morning session, all participants are welcome to return to Beaver Creek Provincial Park for a bagged lunch and to join our 1:00 – 4:00 PM Monarch Waystation Learning Garden Open House.

Registration is Required. The event is free, however, space is limited. Please click the link below to register:
