Next Native Plant Sale is this SATURDAY August 30, 9 am-12 pm AT THE NURSERY 209 Paddock Road Smyrna/Townsend
FALL FOCUS PLANT HIGHLIGHTS AT THE NURSERY:
BROADLEAF IRONWEED- a Full Sun Part Sun plant, it does well in average soil, and is shorter in stature (3-5') than New York variety. It gets a beautiful haze of purple top bouquet, that is full of pollinators and seed eating birds in the fall. It seeds readily germinate for seedlings to put anywhere you want or to share with friends. Seedlings transplant easily when they are young. An important plant during a time when late season flowers are in short supply.
BLUE-STEMMED GOLDENROD- does well in Part Sun to Shade and average soil. It is shorter than most other Goldenrods at 3 feet with golden rods of beauty and busyness. It is A KEYSTONE PLANT which means it is a native plant species with a disproportionately large impact on its local ecosystem, providing critical food and shelter for a vast number of other species, especially insects. Like the keystone in an arch, its removal can cause the collapse of the food web and ecosystem that depend on it. Oak trees and Milkweed and Goldenrods are examples of keystone plants, supporting diverse wildlife through food sources and host plant relationships. Put it with Asters for the Best BANG!
