There is no age minimum or maximum (this is not an adult class, but parents are welcome to join in for free), but students must be able to hold a carving tool and be able to carve. Usually 7 and up is best, although we have had students as young as 4 join. Each class, every student will go home with what they worked on (and hopefully finished in class). Children's Survival 101 is Owl Eyes Wilderness Survival's basic class for children. We specifically designed this course to be very fun and engaging, but also teach serious skills should a child become lost in the woods. Of course, we always like to add a few games in as well. All experience levels are welcome. This is a very popular class and will equip your child with basic and foundational wilderness skills. We usually teach shelters, wood carving, and fire building, but we will add more skills if time allows and depending on students' interest. This class is held year round, completely outside, and runs rain or shine. It is very important that you and your child are dressed for the weather. If you have any questions on how to dress for the cold, heat, wet, snow, or bugs, please reach out and we will be happy to help.SKILLS COVERED:Wood Carving Tool Use/Sharpening/SafetyFire Building with Modern ToolsDebris Shelter BuildingOutdoor Clothing Selection*How to Build a Survival Kit*Signaling for Rescue*RECOMMENDED GEAR FOR CLASS: (completely optional, we have everything to borrow)Water and snacksAppropriate clothing for weather and bugsThis is not a drop off event and parents are required to stay for the duration of this program.
